Working for the City
Becoming eligible for hire by the City of New York is easier than ever! Getting hired for most City jobs is a three-step process:
Take an Exam
The City posts an annual schedule of exams every July for titles for which City agencies seek to hire. Applicants can apply and pay for exams online, and can take an exam either online or at a community-based test center.
Qualify for a Civil Service List
After each exam, the City establishes an eligible to hire list that consists of all applicants who passed the exam, and is available to each City agency with open positions.
When a City agency has hiring need, candidates are contacted for interviews. After the interview, a candidate may be selected for appointment to a vacant position.
